A huge swath of Mindanao was out of power, again, yesterday, disrupting activities for a lot of people and enterprises.
According to this report:
“a dropwire at the switchyard of Kibawe substation snapped at around 3:30 pm today and tripped bus breakers causing power loss to Southestern Mindanao and Davao City, and Southwestern Mindanao and General Santos City areas”
Look at where Kibawe substation is in this diagram. It’s right smack dab in the center of the Mindanao grid, connecting north and south. Looks pretty key to me. A bus outage at Kibawe is serious. Worse than a single transmission circuit failing. A bus connects several lines together so if it goes out, lots of stuff goes out – as we saw.
I’m presuming that everything south of Kibawe was out. I know that the outages extended all the way north to Valencia and to Malaybalay (which, as you can see, is served out of Kibawe). That looks like well over a third of the Mindanao load.
Mindanao is becoming a handful for Transco to handle, apparently.
