Masinloc’s a hot potato right now. Did you see the editorial cartoon in the Manila Times yesterday? It reminded me a little of what I had to say a year and half ago.
By the way, the wholesale electricity market has been overhyped, oversold, and under explained. You would think, given what’s been said publicly about WESM, that there would be no problem selling Masinloc power. There’s going to be an organized market! Buy and sell electricity at it’s true price!
WESM doesn’t (and isn’t designed to) change the fundamentals of financing and contracting for reliable power supply. Although it will play an important supporting role in replacing state-controlled dispatch and transmission congestion management, it has been a distraction to long term, reliable, low-cost power supply and caused many people (not all!) to take their eye off the ball.
