Periodically I like to touch base with reality and provide a data point.
My wife owns a small internet cafe in Davao City. Here is the electricity bill for the 30 day period ending December 15, 2005. It’s on a small commercial rate.
Two things here. First, it gives a snapshot of power rates in Mindanao, fully loaded with taxes. Second, it gives an example of a typical Philippine retail electricity bill - with unbundling implemented.
The total bill is PhP 5,735 for 1,111 kWh consumption. That’s PhP 5.16/kWh. In US Dollars, that’s 9.7 cents/kWh at today’s interbank exchange rate.
